Ol Pejeta Conservancy and Uganda Gorilla Safari

This five-day trip links two countries and two very different wildlife stories. It opens in Kenya’s Ol Pejeta Conservancy and Uganda Gorilla Safari, where travelers visit a chimpanzee sanctuary, go on Big Five game drives, and join a lion-tracking activity alongside conservancy researchers — a rare chance to see northern white rhino, one of the world’s most endangered animals, along the way. From there, a short flight to Entebbe leads overland into southwestern Uganda, crossing the Equator en route to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for a guided trek to spend one hour with a wild mountain gorilla family. Compact but layered, the itinerary pairs Kenya’s open savannah with Uganda’s misty highland forest in a single trip.

Highlights

  • Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary – a boat ride past rescued, rehabilitated chimpanzees in Ol Pejeta
  • Big Five game drives across Ol Pejeta's plains, including the last two northern white rhinos on Earth
  • Lion tracking with researchers – a hands-on conservation activity, not just a standard game drive
  • Crossing the Equator – the classic hemisphere photo stop en route to Bwindi
  • Mountain gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest – an hour with a habituated gorilla family, permit included
